You've checked out of your hotel, your Eurostar leaves this evening, and you have a free afternoon in London. The last thing you want is to spend it pulling a suitcase around. Here's where to leave your bags near St Pancras, and how to make sure you're back in time for your train.

Eurostar luggage rules, in brief

Before you decide what to store and what to keep with you, it helps to know what you can take on board. According to Eurostar:

  • Standard and Plus tickets include two bags plus one small item of hand luggage.
  • Premier tickets include three bags plus one small item of hand luggage.
  • On routes to and from London, each bag can be up to 85cm long.
  • There's no weight limit, but you need to be able to lift your own bags onto the train and into the racks.

Extra and oversized items cost more. Rules and prices can change, so check Eurostar's luggage page before you travel.

Your options for storing bags near St Pancras

1. The station's left-luggage office

St Pancras International has a staffed left-luggage office run by Excess Baggage Co., in the Circle area of the station. The station's website lists it as open 06:00 to 23:00, Monday to Sunday. It's right in the station, which makes it easy for a quick turnaround. It doesn't publish prices on the station's website, so check the cost with the operator before you go.

2. Book luggage storage with a local host

StoreMyLuggage connects you with local businesses that look after bags by the day. Our King's Cross location is on Caledonian Road, a few hundred metres from St Pancras. You book online, see the full price before you pay, and know the opening hours before you set off.

From £2.99 a day

£2.99 per small bag or £3.99 per large bag per day, plus £1 per bag for cover up to £1,000.

Sealed and checked

Hosts seal bags with tamper-evident tags where possible, and every host's identity and address is checked.

3. Ask your hotel

If you stayed nearby, your hotel may hold your bags after check-out. It's worth asking before you leave. If you weren't a guest, see our guide: can you leave luggage at a hotel if you're not a guest?

Timing your pick-up

The one thing that can go wrong is cutting it too fine. Eurostar closes ticket checks 30 minutes before departure for Standard and Plus, and recommends arriving earlier than that, because you go through ticket checks, security and passport control before boarding.

Work backwards

Start from the arrival time Eurostar recommends for your ticket, then add the time to collect your bags and walk to the station.

Check closing times

Make sure wherever you leave your bags is still open when you need them back, especially for late trains.

Keep your passport, tickets and anything you'll need on the train in a small day bag, so there's nothing to dig out of a suitcase at the gates.

Just arrived on the Eurostar?

The same applies in reverse. If you arrive in London before you can check in to your hotel, drop your bags off and head out. St Pancras sits right next to King's Cross, with Coal Drops Yard, the British Library and Regent's Canal all within a short walk. Our King's Cross guide has more ideas.
